The 'Why' of our Mission
"For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea" (Hab. 2:14). This is the Missio Dei - the gospel-centered, disciple-making, kingdom-advancing, glory of the Lord Jesus Christ spreading mission of GOD as laid out for us in Genesis 12:1-3 and Mt. 28:16-20. We see it's consummation in Revelation 5:1-14 with all creation, the angels, and all the redeemed from every tribe and tongue and nation singing the praises of our Great God and Savior, Jesus Christ! Worship of the Lord Jesus is the fuel and the goal of our mission as a local church. GOD will accomplish His mission through His living and reigning Son, Jesus the Christ, working through His body, the church. Ephesians 1:6, 12, 14 shout aloud that GOD's purpose in the salvation of sinners and this world is to unity and restore all things in Christ Jesus to the 'praise of GOD's glory and grace'! Then the Apostle Paul speaks specifically to us, Jesus' church, and says, "GOD put all things under Jesus' feet and gave Him as Head over all things to the church, which is His Body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all" (Eph. 1:22-23). Jesus is the Head of His Body, the church, through which He intends to fill the earth with His Presence, Lordship & Glory.
As the Apostle Peter states it, 'We are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that we might proclaim the excellencies of HIm who called us out of darkness and into His marvelous light" (1 Peter 2:9-10). The 'why' of our existence and mission as a local church is to spread a passion for the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ to all nations. Above all else we want to see more and more people come to know and worship and adore Jesus Christ as Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
